Tomohiro Imagawa, (born in Kyoto, Japan), is a Japanese visual artist who
lives and studies at AKI ArtEZ in the Netherlands. His practice is
multidisciplinary and includes performance art, illustration, film and
installations. His focus is often on everyday life and mundaneness which can be
hidden and untold in our hectic life. Through artmaking he tries to give new
perspectives of daily things and phenomena that are often overlooked in
everyday life.
As a person belonging to LGBTQ+ community, he is working on giving more awareness to groups of people who are overlooked in this community, so the minority of a minority community. The illustration or performance artwork is inspired by individual voices from the communities; thus, he uses the power of individual experience to appeal to broader audiences, including those not in the queer people. The societal contribution by the creation of the art and the safe space in which to experience it, is the purpose of what drives Tomohiro’s artistic expressions and journey.
